The Government is keen on getting the most out of the tourist destinations in Bocas del Toro and Chiriqui.
For this reason, it is evaluated to establish an air link between these two provinces and the Guanacaste airport in Costa Rica.
Although Airlines Copa Air Panama is negotiating with an agreement that would allow tourists to arrive at Tocumen airport and then take a plane to Bocas del Toro and Chiriqui, the Government wants to increase air links to those destinations, said Ernesto Orillac adviser Tourism Authority of Panama.
For now there is nothing definite, Orillac said, but explained that the goal is to talk with regional airlines that are interested in operating the route Guanacaste-Bocas del Toro and Chiriqui.
He noted that airports in the two provinces are ready to welcome international flights. In both terminals, are being put on X-ray machines and install perimeter fencing to prevent people and animals have access to the runway.
For Joseph Thomas, a businessman Bocas, rather than increase flight frequencies to the province the most important thing is to check the prices of airline tickets.
Currently, the airfare to Bocas del Toro for one person costs $ 220, while there are promotions where the passage to other countries like Guatemala it costs $ 200, he said.
Regional Aeroperlas is also keen to encourage movement of tourists to Bocas del Toro and Chiriqui, and in 2011 that will place the codes of these destinations in some of the global systems of reserves, such as Amadeus and SARB.
